Public Speaking
This can
be a major challenge for most people where the mere thought of it turns
peoples legs to jelly. We speak to people every day often people who we
don’t even know but for many the idea of speaking to a group of people if
nerve raking. Why is it so difficult and daunting for so many to talk in
this way. Well the answer is simple. I find that most people when they think
about doing it start to mentally rehearse negative scenarios of what might
happen and then believe them.
Every
negative thought produces negative feelings, those negative scenarios become
more and more exaggerated with the repetition of those thoughts and then the
anxiety builds up. The more a person thinks about public speaking in this
manner the worse they feel. Often people will dream up totally negative
scenarios such as being lost for words or people laughing at them or not if
it is a best man’s speech. This way of running your thoughts is not only
dumb but it can cause physical symptoms such as panic attacks. Public
speaking can be mastered by anyone but you need to practice and gain
experience to become proficient.
Many
people with a fear of public speaking have overcome the fear and become good
speakers. Also people like myself help train people to increase their
self-confidence so help is at hand. I run a very successful public speaking
