  Drug Abuse

Drugs are basically used as a way to escape from reality. The more somebody uses drugs in this way the deeper into trouble they get. Some people can use drugs recreationally and never become dependant like say at a party every now and again but many people end up needing them more and more when they feel down. The need to escape from reality becomes more and necessary as their reality becomes harder to deal with due to the symptoms of drug abuse. In the beginning it seems quite innocent but more and more a person becomes more dependant on the new feelings the drugs produce.

After a while the once great high becomes less great so the person takes more to try to recreate the old effects. Obviously every drug is different in its effects on a persons life. Soft drugs like cannabis although acceptable in some countries can have a damaging effect on some users where paranoia can set it and a general apathy to ambition can become the new state of mind. Drug abuse including heroin and crack cocaine use is another escape from reality start off point that quickly turns into a nightmare for the user and for those associated with the user.  When a person is addicted to these hard drugs their reality really does become a nightmare as the only important thing in life changes to drugs.

For the user or addict ponder this. Why do you need to escape from reality?  What is so bad in your life that you need to escape it? Do you feel imprisoned by your own mind and you need to escape for a while? If so there are other ways to do just that without the damaging effects of drug abuse. We all feel at times like we need to escape but there are various safer methods to do that. Some people meditate, some people go fishing and some people learn thought re-training. Thought re-training is a very effective tool for preventing the stress build up in the first place. By learning how to control your thoughts the need to escape reality diminishes. Your reality is whatever you think it is. As we all know there is no happy ending with drug abuse, as you never see an old junkie. But with thought re-training you can gain control of your mind again and give yourself the best chance of beating the habit.

Thought re-training as explained in The Principles of Life book is an easy technique to learn and once learned becomes an automatic process that needs only daily maintenance for it to work forever. By learning how to control the thoughts that produce stress there is no need to get away from it all with drug abuse. If any of this stuff applies to you or you can relate to it I am here to tell you that all is not lost. You can break free from the negative cycle of drug abuse you just need to believe you can do it. I have helped many people break free from their destructive habits so can you.

The first step is to decide if the state of affairs you are in is the way you see your life in the future. If it is not you have to make a decision about your life. A decision to do what ever it takes to urn your life around. As I write now people all over the world are becoming drug free and creating a life for themselves without the need for drugs. They are doing it so can you; you are stronger than you think. You can do it.
