 Anorexia

When a person looks in the mirror and sees a fat person when the scales do not agree, that person is in for a battle. At this point the person involved is thinking with their conscious mind only and is being totally dominated by the nonsense it brings. If they were using their subconscious wisdom it would tell them that they are not fat and that they need to eat properly. When this happens the person who believes the chatter and believes that food is the enemy and that they need to stop eating it or throw it up needs to begin to make some changes urgently.

Whether or not you are one of the above or indeed know somebody who sufferers from anorexia it is always down to the same cause in every case. It is due to the inability to run one’s mind correctly. I say inability but this is not entirely the truth. It would be more accurate to say that the person who sufferers from anorexia has not learned the way to do it rather than not being able to do it. You see if you don’t know how to do it or if you didn’t even know that it was possible to do then you just go along with your own program. What I am saying is that in order to change these negative state of affairs a new mental program must be put in place, which might sound difficult but in reality it is easier than you might think with the right guidance and knowledge.

As we have already discussed, for every behaviour that we have there is always a payoff. It is not for me to speculate what possible payoffs you might be getting out of this behaviour but what I do know is that whatever the payoff is, it must be stronger than the misery that you are inflicting on yourself and your family. Close your eyes, relax and ask yourself “What is my payoff for this behaviour; what do I get out of it?”. Whatever the subconscious mind tells you, understand that it is telling you the truth. You must find an alternative behaviour that gives you the same payoff as the old behaviour used to give you, and do it instead and do it fast!

I have heard lots of different reasons when this technique has been used, ranging from “I don’t want to grow up” to “I want attention” to “I want to be loved” etc. The need for these payoffs can override the pain of these eating disorders and all the chaos they bring and are at the heart of the problem itself. You need to find an alternative to the old way of receiving the payoff, that has all the same benefits but without the dangerous health consequences. What else can you do instead to receive these same benefits or how might you start to change your perception of the needs that you crave?

Anorexia is quite tricky as the person who sufferers from it are almost certainly in the grip of their conscious mind and the relentless negative analytical chatter it spouts. The first step on the road to recovery is to control that chatter. This is done via thought re-training, which can either be taught by myself personally or via The Principles of Life book, which is available on this site. After that process is under control a whole new positive image can be installed with the new beliefs and philosophies installed to help build the new foundations for a new you. This might sound like a massive effort but what’s the alternative? It takes a lot of effort to be an anorexic doing all the things an anorexic does. It will take a lot of effort to become this new you but it will take no more effort than you are already using, it just takes a little time to reverse the habit of anorexia.

I treat anorexia with both confidence boosting hypnosis and I teach the client thought re-training. Treatment times vary with each individual both positive results can be seen in around five sessions depending on the client’s motivation and willingness to change. A lot of personal work and brutal honesty has to expected by the client who seeks help from this. But it is far from impossible and it certainly can be overcome. As you read this now somebody somewhere is overcoming the challenge of anorexia and is starting on a new path to greater well-being. The same can be for you, you can over come this challenge and start to live the life you want instead.
